Mahshid Shelechi is a Research Registered Dietitian at the University of Southern California, Davis School of Gerontology and serves as a clinical Research Coordinator at USC+LAC and Norris Cancer Center. She earned her Master’s degree in Nutritional Sciences at San Diego State University in 2012. While she was working on her Master thesis, “Effects of dark chocolate on colon cancer”, and serving as a research assistant, she became interested in the effect of natural compounds on human health. Upon completion of her master’s degree, she got accepted to the Greater Los Angeles Veteran Affairs dietetic internship (VAGLA). During that time, she realized how modifying food intake could improve the quality of life of each individual.
Her work at USC focuses on fasting and age-related diseases. She has completed a human clinical trial on a fasting mimicking diet and its effect on biomarkers for aging, cancer, diabetes and heart disease. Currently, Mahshid is working on two clinical trials on the effect of fasting and low calorie diet on breast and prostate cancer patients. Mahshid wrote a chapter on the Longevity diet along with 30 healthy recipes for Dr. Valter Longo’s book on Longevity. Mahshid has two publications and she is a member of the American Diabetic Association and Los Angeles Diabetic Association.
